Ramon Magsaysay Award For Carnatic singer T.M. Krishna and Bezwada Wilson
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation announced its awardees and Carnatic singer T.M. Krishna and Bezwada Wilson, the national convenor of the Safai Karmachari Andolan, both have found a place in the list.
T.M. Krishna
T.M. Krishna will receive the award for "Social Inclusiveness in Culture," and he was born in 1976, Chennai and was trained from the age of six in the aristocratic Karnatik music under masters of the form.
Bezwada Wilson
- Bezwada Wilson was named as an awardee for "Asserting the Inalienable Right to a Life of Human Dignity." and he was born in Kolar Gold Fields township in Karnataka state.
About Ramon Magsaysay Award
- The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award and one of Asia's most prestigious awards celebrating leadership in Asia, established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The prize was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City with the concurrence of the Philippine government. The awards will be presented on August 31 at a formal ceremony in Manila.
The awards were given in six categories, five of which were discontinued effectively in 2009.
