New Largest Planet discovered - That Orbits Two Suns

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and San Diego State University (SDSU) in California, used NASA's Kepler Space Telescope to identify the new planet, Kepler-1647b. The discovery was announced 13.06.2016 in San Diego at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society. The research has been accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal with Veselin Kostov, a NASA Goddard postdoctoral fellow, as lead author.

Kepler-1647 is 3,700 light-years away and approximately 4.4 billion years old, roughly the same age as Earth. The stars are similar to the sun, with one slightly larger than our home star and the other slightly smaller.
The planet has a mass and radius nearly identical to that of Jupiter, making it the largest transiting circumbinary planet ever found. Planets that orbit two stars are known as circumbinary planets, or sometimes “Tatooine” planets, after Luke Skywalker’s home world in “Star Wars.” Using Kepler data, astronomers search for slight dips in brightness that hint a planet might be passing or transiting in front of a star, blocking a tiny amount of the star’s light.

பிரபஞ்சத்திலேயே மிகப்பெரிய கிரகம் ஒன்றை அமெரிக்க விண் வெளி ஆய்வு மைய (NASA) விஞ்ஞானிகள் கண்டுபிடித்து ள்ளனர். கெப்ளர் விண்வெளி தொலைநோக்கி உதவியுடன் புதிய கிரகத்தைக் கண்டுபிடித்துள்ளனர். அந்த கிரகம் 2 சூரியன்களை சுற்றி வருவதாகவும் அவர்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
பால்வெளி மண்டலத்தில் வடக்குப் பகுதியில் உள்ள நட்சத்திரக் கூட்டத்தில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ள இந்த கிரகத்துக்கு கெப்ளர்-1647பி என பெயரிட்டு ள்ளனர். இந்த பிரபஞ்சத்திலேயே இதுதான் மிகப்பெரிய கிரகமாக இருக்கும் என கருதுகின்றனர். இப்போது வரை வியாழன் கிரகம்தான் மிகப்பெரியது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
3,700 ஒளி ஆண்டுகள் தொலைவில் உள்ள இந்த கிரகத்தின் வயது 440 கோடி ஆண்டுகள் (கிட்டத்தட்ட பூமியின் வயது) என விஞ்ஞானிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இது நமது சூரிய குடும்பத்துக்கு வெளியே உள்ள 2 சூரியன்களை சுற்றி வருவதாகவும் அவர்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இதில் ஒன்று நமது சூரியனைவிட பெரியதாகவும் மற்றொன்று சிறியதாகவும் இருப்பதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. புதிய கிரகம் அதன் சூரியன்களைச் சுற்றி வர 1,107 நாட்கள் (சுமார் 3 ஆண்டுகள்) எடுத்துக் கொள்கின்றன.
