Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: A mission to Clean India by 2019
On October 2, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a mission launched throughout length and breadth of the country as a National Movement. The campaign was launched by the government on the 145th birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd of October, 2014, aims to make India a clean country by 2019. The campaign, inaugurated to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti, aims to realise its vision of Clean India by 2019. The pledge the people took under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make India clean is being implemented by the government in letter and spirit.
Ganga, which is one of the world's most polluted rivers will be completely clean by the year 2018.
Under the swachh bharat abhiyan campaign, the government has increased the construction of toilets in the country. The government is fast achieving its objectives but without the cooperation of the citizens the aim to make India clean will be difficult.
