Saraswathi Samman for the year 2015 - Padma Sachdev
  • Eminent author Padma Sachdev was awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2015 for her autobiography 'Chitt-Chete' in Dogri language. She was felicitated by Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in New Delhi on 29.08.2016.
  • The award is given every year for an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen, published during the last 10 years. 
  • The award carries a sum of Rs 15 lakh besides a citation and a plaque. The 76-year-old poet and novelist's autobiography, published in 2007, was shortlisted from 22 works written in as many languages published between 2005 and 2014.
About Padma Sachdev
  • Sachdev, who is the first women poet in Dogri language, has been a recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971 for her poetry book 'Meri Kavita Mere Geet.' She has 60 books to her credit and recited poems in several regional languages, including Gujarati and Punjabi.
About Saraswati Samman Award
  • The Saraswati Samman is an annual award for outstanding prose or poetry literary works in any 22 Indian language listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India. It is named after an Indian goddess of learning and is considered to be among the highest literary awards in India.
  • The Saraswati Samman was instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation. It consists of Rs 10 lakh, a citation and a plaque. Candidates are selected from literary works published in the previous ten years by a panel that included scholars and former award winners. The inaugural award was given to Harivanshrai 'Bachchan' for his four volume autobiography, Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Needa Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door and Dashdwar se Sopan Tak.
